Sallie Elizabeth Pooser New, 87, died July 30, 2017, in Orlando, Florida. She was born in Sneads, Florida on October 8, 1929. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert L. “Bob” New, her parents Wankard Pooser and Maude Brogdon Pooser, and brothers and sisters Wankard Lucius Pooser, Willie Maude Reeves, Francis Ratzlaff, Martha Sims, John Pooser, Charlie Pooser, Kathryn Lucille Ross, and James Elliot Pooser. She is survived by her son David New; daughter Elaine New; sister Annie Laura Scott and brother Lucius B. “Cap” Pooser; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Sallie grew up in Jackson County, Florida and graduated from Marianna High School. She attended Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Valencia Community College, and the University of Central Florida.



She married Bob New on November 23, 1949 and he was the light of her life. They moved to Orlando in 1959 when Bob began his tenure with the First Baptist Church of Orlando. Sallie was a long time Sunday School teacher, served as Missions Chairman, Prayer Chairman, Trustee, and as W.M.U Director. She had been a member of First Baptist Church and was a founding member of Downtown Baptist Church.



Her father was a member of the Florida Legislature and he took Sallie with him to Tallahassee to be his secretary. She later worked as a secretary to a county judge in Marianna and then as a real estate secretary in Orlando. She loved to collect antiques.



Arrangements are through Baldwin-Fairchild Lake Ivanhoe. Visitation 10:15 a.m., Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 5, 2017, at Downtown Baptist Church, 120 E. Pine St.
