Sandra "Sandi" Reis James, 77, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of May 11, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona. Sandi was born on October 18, 1939 in Quincy, Illinois to Walter and Alberta Reis. The Reis family moved to Tucson, AZ where Sandi attended Tucson High School and graduated in 1957. While in high school she met her future husband Harry James, they married in 1958 and then moved to Los Angeles, CA that same year and began building their lives and family. Sandi volunteered for the local hospital and helped care for infants that needed special attention, and on more than one occasion she would bring the baby home with her for short term foster care. Sandi fell in love with all the babies but it wasn't until the early 60's she and Harry were able to adopt one lucky little boy. Sandi and Harry had four girls in addition to the baby boy making this a rather large family of 7. The James family moved back to Tucson, AZ in 1972 and although Sandi & Harry divorced, they remained friends and together watched as their family grew throughout the years in Arizona. She is survived by Harry James, her sister Peggy (Jim) Bogard, daughter Kim (Mark) Ziegler, daughter Kelly (Ron) Owsley, daughter Kris (James) Richards, daughter Karey (Steve) Kaler, 10 Grandchildren (Craig (CJ), Nicholas, Stephanie, Rebecca, Hunter, Anthony (AJ), Hailey, Kasey, Kenzey & Kole, great granddaughter Emma and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son Mark James (2016), her brother Michael Reis (2011), her parents Walter Reis, Alberta Medlin, and niece Patricia Bogard. A celebration for Sandi will take place on May 19th at 12:00 p.m. at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park 400 S. Power Rd in Mesa, AZ. Family and friends are invited to attend the service, and a reception at the Richards residence will follow. Sandi was a wonderful mother, prided herself with all her grandchildren and was truly overjoyed with her great granddaughter. Sandi always had a camera with her to take pictures of every event the family celebrated and we are so grateful for all the memories she shared with her photos. But in everything about Sandi, she is best known for her faith in Jesus Christ and loved to sing the beautiful hymns she grew up with. She raised her children to know the Lord as well and we are all comforted in the knowledge that she is finally home in heaven with her Lord and Savior. She will be truly missed. The family is grateful for condolences and in lieu of flowers, requests that family and friends consider a donation in her honor to the AZ Chapter Families of SMA also known as Cure SMA.
