We sadly announce the departure of Sara Jane NARUM, who died at home in Nampa, ID on January 15, 2017. She was 73 years old.

Jane was born on June 8, 1943, in Roxborough, Pennsylvania. The fourth of six children, she loved to watch cowboy shows on television and especially loved animals, a passion that helped guide much of her life.

When she was 15 years old she got a job at a veterinary office. Beginning as a receptionist, she became their "Girl Friday" and helped with everything from cleaning out kennels to grooming dogs and assisting with surgery.

As a young adult she raised and showed her standard poodle, Impy, who achieved a "Best in Show" title.

In 1968, she met and married Robert Narum, and they made a home in Phoenixville, PA. There they built a home and had six children, before making a move to Waterloo, IA. There a seventh child was born. In Iowa, they purchased ten acres and ran Blackhawk Kennels, a dog boarding and grooming business, for many years.
Upon retirement, Bob and Jane moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement. They were able to take long trips across the country to see their children and grandchildren, and made a trip to Europe to see the Eiffel Tower.

Jane was known as quite a firecracker and a fierce advocate for the underdog. Their many friends remember her as whip smart, and a little bit of an iconoclast, always challenging authority when she felt "the way things were" was unfair. Despite some outer bravado, Jane was all heart, full of love for others and never judging.
She had many opportunities to serve in her church and in the community, and she taught her family the importance of hard work, taking care of others, and trying not to judge others. She survived personal struggles of every stripe and was the strong, stalwart matriarch of our family.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, William and Claire Schwartz, a brother, Richard, and a sister, Barbara. She is also preceded by a son, Adam.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; three siblings, Mary Ann Thompson, William A Schwartz, and Claire Marie Schwartz; her children: Claire Narum, Lizz Narum, Sarah Williams, Bill Narum, Katie Graham, Susan Narum, and Mary Singh. She is also survived by three sons-in-law: Shad Williams, Leonard Graham, and Jagjit Singh; and finally, by 13 grandchildren.

She is well loved and will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to First Choice Hospice, and Heifer International at www.Heifer.org
