SARA LEE BUCHANAN RED

Sara Lee Buchanan Red left this world to enter into the full presence of God and be
reunited with her husband, Walter, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Born on July 3, 1925 in Anniston, AL to Charles Lee Buchanan and Sara Erin Graham Buchanan, Sara Lee and her family moved to Chattanooga in 1937. She graduated from the
Girls Preparatory School in 1943. While attending Averett College, Danville, VA, Sara
Lee made her debut at the Chattanooga Cotton Ball. Upon returning home, she obtained
her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Chattanooga.

In October of 1948, she married Walter Sadd Red of Lookout Mountain, TN, whose career took
their growing family from coast to coast as they welcomed children in different cities along the way. Upon Walter's retirement as an executive at Canada Dry, he and Sara Lee moved back to their home on Lookout Mountain.

As a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Sara Lee served on the altar, linen, and
flower guilds. She took great delight as a founding member of the Church bookstore.
She often made her home available to family and friends, many of whom included Olympians,
prominent musicians, and professional athletes. She will best be remembered for her
loving spirit, distinctive wit, happy demeanor, and welcoming smile.

Sara Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Lee Buchanan and Sara Erin Graham Buchanan; brother, Charles G. Buchanan; and husband, Walter S. Red.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Edna (Teeny) B. Lassiter; daughter, Anne R. Wright
(Kenneth E. Wright, d.); son, Robert W. Red (Debbie M. Red); daughter, Jane R. Knox
(Neil Knox); grandchildren, Wesley A. Wilkerson, Sara Page Red, Dr. Rebecca R. Lacks
(Ryan R. Lacks), Maggie R. Knox; and great-grandson, Charles W. Lacks.

The family of Sara Lee would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff, caregivers, and
many friends at Thrive at Brow Wood and express their utmost appreciation for Sandy Tidwell and Amy Hunt, her long-term caregivers.

The family welcomes all to a visitation on Monday, April 24, 10 -11 AM, Talbird Hall at the
Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, TN. Committal will follow in the church garden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sara Lee's memory to the Church of the
Good Shepherd, 211 Franklin Rd. Lookout Mountain, TN 37350.
