Sara Ann Word was born to Eva and Richard Word on February 21, 1932 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was the second daughter and fourth child in the family. Sara married the love of her life, Jeff O'Donnell Smith, in 1950 and they began their life together in Bald Knob. Within a few years, they welcomed a son Jeff Daniel and then a daughter Elizabeth. Over the years, Sara filled her time with homemaking and working for the Bald Knob postal service. After retirement Sara and Jeff moved to the family farm in Searcy. As the years went by she became a grandmother six times over and welcomed 11 great grandchildren. Sara enjoyed playing Bridge, reading, and the challenge of crossword puzzles, but her greatest joy was her family.

On March 23, 2016, Sara left her earthly body behind for her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings Richard C. Word, Jr., Nancy M. Davis and Samuel F. Word. Sara's legacy includes her children Dan (Diane) and Ziba (David), grandchildren, great grandchildren and special nephews John and Jim (Teresa) Edens.

Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home in Searcy at 12:30pm on March 28, 2016. A graveside service will follow at 2:00pm at Gum Springs Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Baldwin Memorial Library, 612 Van Buren St., Judsonia, AR 72081 or a charity of your choosing.
