Mrs. Sarah Privateer Katson, 87, passed away on December 19, 2017. Mrs. Katson was born on August 28, 1930 in Fredonia, New York. The daughter of Vincenzo (James) and Rosaria (Sarah) Privitera from Valledolmo, Sicily, they lived at 29 Moore Avenue with her 9 older siblings. Mrs. Katson, who showed a talent at drawing, moved to Washington D.C. in the 1950s to seek a better opportunity, get married and have children. She worked in the restaurant business including Mickey Grasso’s and the El Mexico restaurants. Mrs. Katson was preceded in death by her husband, James (Dimitrios) Katson. In 1984, she moved to California where she and her husband owned and operated Dimitri’s Greek restaurants in Solana Beach and La Jolla. For the past 12 years, she lived in San Antonio with her daughter. A voracious reader, peace advocate, accomplished cook and short story writer, at her death she was planning to publish a book of her original poetry. Surviving her are her daughters Tomaline Murray of San Antonio, TX; Patricia Wardino of Reston, VA; Demetra Katson and Christina Katson of Arlington, VA; and her sons Peter Katson of McLean, VA and Paul Katson of Carlsbad, CA; three grandsons Andrew, Jimmy and Michael Katson of McLean, VA and one granddaughter, Kaelyn Katson of Carlsbad. The viewing is on Thursday, December 28 at 5-8 pm; the chapel service is on Friday, December 29 at 10 am and the burial is at 11 am. The viewing, chapel service and burial are all at the El Camino Funeral Home and Mortuary at 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92121. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Trinity Catholic Church and their Stephen Ministry in San Antonio and cancer support group the Imerman Angels.
