Dr. Saurel Placide, son of Dieuveuille Placide and Leoni Larrieux Placide, was born in Aux Cayes, Haiti, West Indies on January 2, 1929. As a young man, he pursued a career in teaching. Then he decided to become a physician and entered medical school in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. He graduated Magna Cum Laude then went on to a general surgery internship in Montreal, Canada. In 1964, he traveled to New York and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. At this point, he joined the United States Air Force as a Major and worked for many years at the Fort Hamilton VA Hospital in Brooklyn, NY from whence he retired in 1998.

Dr. Placide received the Third Angel's Message in 1979 and joined the church where he served as an elder. His spiritual growth deepened in congregations such as Springfield Gardens Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in New York, Port Charlotte SDA Church (Port Charlotte, FL) and, most recently, Raleigh SDA Church (Raleigh, NC).

His love for the visual arts - painting, drawing, sculpturing - filled his retirement years with enjoyment.

He is survived by his wife, Joice, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brother Placide passed away quietly on May 5, 2017 after a period of illness. He looked forward to the hope of seeing Jesus stepping down from the clouds to call His children home where we will live throughout eternity.

After the funeral services at the Mitchell Funeral Home he will be interned at Raleigh Memorial Park.

We all love you. See you in the morning my dear brother.

Arrangements under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
