Auburn- Shirley R. Daignault,95, passed away on Thursday, February 16,2017 at the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs home in Auburn. She was born in Portland Maine on December 26,1921, the daughter of the late Laurier and Hazel (Taylor) Sampson.
She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1938 and went on to Bliss College. She proudly served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1944 being honorably discharged. She then met the love of her life, Paul R. Daignault, whom she married on January 25,1945. They shared a loving marriage of 65 years up until his death on October 15,2010. Together they had three children; Richard, Daniel, and Mary.
In 1960, Shirley went to work at CMMC hospital as a secretary in the Social services department. She worked there for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She went on to work part-time at St Joseph's daycare for several more years.
Shirley was a devout Christian strong in her faith and at heart, a homemaker. Although cooking wasn't at the top of her list, she never failed to make delicious home cooked meals and desserts. She also enjoyed working outdoors and was an avid reader. Her favorite past-time was seeing her grandchildren. she always referred to them as her "precious angels". She will surely be missed by all.
