Sidney (Sid) A. McKenzie, 70, of Niantic Ct passed away August 8, 2017 at the William W Backus Hospital in Norwich following complications caused by pulmonary fibrosis. Sid was born January 15,1947 in Providence, R.I, the son of the late Sydney A and Evelyn (Rose) McKenzie. After graduating from Pilgrim High School in Warwick R.I., he attended J&W College and enlisted in the Army National Guard. Upon his return, he started working in the automotive industry and soon became general manager of various local dealerships. Most recently he worked in the auto wholesale business with his own company, Niantic Wholesale Company. Sid was highly respected and well known to all in the automotive field. Sid was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed basketball (Go UCONN), the CT Sun, boating, fishing, vacations in Aruba, and was a friend to everyone he met. He is survived by his beloved wife Janet (Gollis) McKenzie, his cherished daughter Jennifer McKenzie, and his treasured grandson Tyler McKenzie. He is also survived by a brother, Daniel R. McKenzie (Donna), brother-in-law Martin Gollis (Victoria), special cousin Reverend Frank McKenzie and other nephews, niece, and friends and associates. A special thank you to the compassionate nurses and doctors on the Backus Hospital 3rd floor, tech aids, dietary aids, and the Backus Pulmonary Rehab Center whose dedicated care is greatly appreciated. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday (August 14th) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home 48 Grand Street, Niantic, CT. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday (Aug 15th), 11 a.m., at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home 48 Grand Street, Niantic, CT.
