Sidney Louise Brandenburg Burnett, widow of Dr. Robert E. Burnett and daughter of the late Louise Holman Brandenburg and Sidney Loryea Brandenburg, died June 25, 2017. She was born and lived most of her life in Elloree, receiving her education in Elloree public schools and at the University of South Carolina where she received her Bachelors degree in journalism. She graduated cum laude and was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa scholastic organization upon graduation.

She worked as an assistant medical librarian at the Medical College at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and later at MUSC in Charleston while her husband pursued his medical training. When Dr. Burnett started his medical practice, she was his only office assistant until he earned enough to hire a nurse.

Later, as a wife and mother, she was active as a girl scout and cub scout leader, taught children in church school, was a class mother, and took other leadership roles in the community. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Elloree Garden Club. She enjoyed reading, working in her garden, and playing bridge with friends.

She was thankful for her long, happy life, and loved her family dearly. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Eugene Burnett, MD, and is survived by her children, Susan Burnett Heyward (C. Carroll) of Columbia and Colonel Robert Eugene Burnett, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada; her grandchildren, Sidney Heyward Rex (Ben) of Columbia, Carroll Heyward, Jr. (Caitlin) of Columbia, Robbie Burnett of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Beau Burnett of Niceville, Florida; and great grandchildren, Fritz Rex, Carroll Heyward III, and Alice Rex; and was predeceased by her brother, General William Holman Brandenburg. The family would like to express their gratitude to Sandra Gaddist, Dorothy Brown, Patricia Baker, Palmetto Hospice, and Still Hopes for the loving care they provided.

The service for Mrs. Burnett will be at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, June 28th at the chapel at Still Hopes; the family will receive visitors after the service in the parlor of the Guignard mansion. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 29th at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Trinity Lutheran Church of Elloree or St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Creston Cemetery Fund.
