NOTRE DAME - As a Sister of the Holy Cross for 70 years, Sister Marcia served 40 years in elementary and secondary education as an accomplished teacher of mathematics in Catholic schools in Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Virginia; Ohio; Massachusetts; New York; and New Jersey. Throughout her life she also maintained excellence as a bookkeeper, accountant, and treasurer, continuing to do so even after she left education in 1988. She was willing to try new things, whether learn "new math" and computer skills midway in her profession or experience a different kind of spiritual retreat late in life. Her community in the East and sisters at Saint Mary's Convent, where she lived since 2014, remember Sister Marcia as a quiet, humble, generous and devoted fellow woman religious. Sister Marcia at 91 years old entered into eternity where "...one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." (2 Peter 3:8) The services at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto will be held on Tuesday, September 13. Reception of the body and wake is at 10:30 a.m. and the Mass of the Resurrection is at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or online at www.cscsisters.org where you can also read more about Sister Marcia. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
