Stanley J. Hinds ORANGE- Stanley J. "Bijah" Hinds, 89, of 519 East River Street, died on Monday evening, December 20, 2010 at home, following an illness, with family at his side. Born in Orange on November 3, 1921, he was a son of Allison and Clara (Underwood) Hinds and grew up in Orange, graduating from Orange High School in 1940. He married Charlotte H. (Putnam) on February 8, 1945 and have enjoyed 65 years together. Stanley served in the United States Army during World War Two in the 8th Airforce in the European Theatre, including France and Normandy. He was honorably discharged on September 27, 1945. A computer programmer for the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange for 36 years, Stanley retired in 1983. Stanley had played semi-pro baseball for the "Orange Peels" and two years on a professional Canadian team. He enjoyed golfing, cross word puzzles, and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Hinds of Orange; children, Sandra Ouellette of Holliston, S. Scott Hinds and his wife, Pam, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Barbara MacKnight, and her husband, Steve, of Montague; grandchildren, Donald Lyman of Aspen, CO, Casey Lyman of Mount Airy, NC, Tyson MacKnight of Montague, Robert Ouellette of Holliston, Sherry Rinsche of Germany, and Mackenzie Hinds of Marietta, GA; and brothers, Allison Hinds of East Hartford, CT and A. Ward Hinds of Cherry Hill, NJ. Stanley was predeceased by a son, Stephen Hinds in 1972 and a daughter, Suzanne Miller in 2001; a grandson, Walter Lyman III; as well as sisters, Norma Smith, Janet Graves, and Barbara Hinds. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in South Cemetery, Orange, in the spring at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Gardner VNA, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440. Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
