Let me tell you about a truly remarkable woman, and a true example of "Our Greatest Generation." Stella Louise Smith was born in 1925, and grew up in rural Mississippi. At an early age she was pressed into serving as "acting mom" and sister to 3 step siblings. This was to set her life on a course of selfless service to family and community. In 1950 Stella married Walter P. Jensen Jr. after his military service during WW II (US Navy). They moved to Baton Rouge, LA where she worked in the State Capitol, helping to support dad as he completed his Engineering degree at LSU. They then moved to Texas and began a family. In Houston, Stella gave birth to a daughter Lessley Ann, and a son Walter "Tripp" P. Jensen III. Stella always put her family ahead of self. Despite her full time life as wife and mom, she still found time to serve the community in various ways such as teaching our Christian faith in Sunday School at the Methodist Church, and serving the hungry and needy at our local food pantry (over 25 years of service).

The memory of this extremely selfless woman, our mom, is and will be everlasting from generation to generation. The lessons and example that she imparted to her children, grandsons, and great granddaughter are priceless. Thank you God for the awesome gift of our mom Stella Louise Jensen.

Family and friends gathered and shared memories during a visitation in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, Texas from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16th, and where Reverend Paul Thomasson of Fair Haven United Methodist Church lead prayers at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19th, at Woodville United Methodist Church, 909 Main Street in Woodville, Mississippi, 39669, (601) 888-3343, and under the direction of Newman Funeral Home, Woodville, Mississippi, (601) 645-5753.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Stella's wishes, memorial contributions in her name would be greatly appreciated to the Fair Haven Food Pantry, 1330 Gessner Road Houston, Texas 77055. (713) 467-4363. You may also visit their website at:
