Stella Marie (Foley) Adkins, a long-time resident of Bloomington, passed away at her home at Hearthstone Health Campus March, 6, 2017. She was 94 years and 11 months young.
Born April 26, 1922, Stella grew up on a farm in Nitro, West Virginia. She was the eldest of three born to Ona (Westfall) and Michael Foley. She found her love of people and pets, especially dogs, early on and carried her devotion to her church and helping others through out her life. Never missing a day of school, she developed a quiet strength and a sense of independence and commitment to excellence that served her well in her work at Bloomington Hospital and later for Dr. Paul Holtzman. She gave countless hours of volunteer service to St. John's, St. Charles, and Meals on Wheels. She was a perfect seamstress, a gracious hostess and a cherished friend to many. She had a smile that could warm a soul and a wittiness that made hearts smile.
Enormous gratitude goes to Hearthstone staff members for the loving care they gave Stella. She is deeply missed by her nieces, nephew, cousins and friends...all of whom are truly blessed to have known her. Stella is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Arthur Adkins Jr., her parents, her sister Eileen, her brother Michael, her only nephew on her side of the family, Jerry Foley, and her love of many years, Pepper, her Schnauzer.
A celebration of Stella's life will be held on March 10, 2017 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 4607 W. St. Rd. 46. There will be a gathering of family and friends at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM with Father Daniel Mahan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to the Monroe County Humane Society, Meals on Wheels, St. John's or a charity of your choice.
