After a brief diagnosis and surgery at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, Stephen "Gilly" Guilfoy, 63 of Nashua NH and Boston MA succumbed to his illness and passed away on January 7, 2016.

Born in Boston, the son of the late James Guilfoy and Evelyn (Maguire) Cicchese, Stephen was a man of considerable and varied interests. More importantly he was a compassionate human being who always attempted to alleviate the suffering of other friends and even strangers who needed help. Much of the activity and concern was the result of the loss of his only child, Stephen., who was killed by a drunk driver on July 20, 2003. After this tragic chapter in his life he and his wife Eileen of 39 years, embarked on a campaign to keep drunk drivers off the roads.

They both spent countless hours making presentations at high schools, local and state legislators and other venues to get their message across. Stephen and Eileen were very involved in "Mothers against Drunk Drivers" (MADD), and lobbied in several states to strengthen laws and prevent such tragedies as they had suffered.

Stephen became a real community activist as he grew older. Many nights were spent at fundraisers for one cause or another. From scholarships to food pantries, Gilly was always involved in one way or another.

His career was varied to say the least. His love of automobiles led him through the auto mechanic program, though his real passion became cooking. His kitchen at home became his office and he would hold court while preparing elaborate meals for scores or friends and family. He especially enjoyed watching his guests as they enjoyed his wonderful creations.

Gilly's home was truly his castle. Being a chef, he was really into "The Farm to Table" movement and grew fruits and vegetables that greatly enhanced his culinary creations. He loved company and his sense of humor always made his dinner guests feel better no matter what mood they arrived with. He was very competitive and as a member of the Boston Billiards Club and enjoyed shooting pool on a weekly basis. Steve's motto became "never challenge someone to play pool that has his own table". He did learn the hard way of how true this was.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eileen, his sister Evelyn Vitali of Old Saybrook, CT, sister in laws Ann Kussy and her husband Tom of Portland, ME, Patricia Patnode and her husband Robert of East Conway, NH, Ellen (Dolly) White and her husband Steven of Burlington, MA, brothers in law Michael Driscoll and his wife Patricia of Merrimac, MA, Gerald Driscoll and his wife Ginger of Dedham, MA, Mark Driscoll and his wife Laura of Westwood, MA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stephen M Guilfoy, his brother James Guilfoy and his in laws Joan and Connie Driscoll.
