With a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beautiful 28 year old son Stewart Gulyes.

Born leap year February 29, 1988 in Evanston Illinois, Stu passed away December 27, 2016 from a drug overdose.

We will forever miss his easy going laugh and laid back personality. Stu battled hard against the disease of addiction and was drug free for the past three years. He really looked to have turned the corner working toward a solid future. A dual US/Canadian citizen, Stu was halfway through completing his Occupational Therapy Assistant Certificate from Georgian College in Canada. His goal was to work with brain damaged adults which was completely in keeping with his always gentle personality and caring about others. He had also recently completed his course training and passed the Private Investigator Exam in Ontario securing employment to begin work in January 2017. His work ethic was always strong. An avid Carolina Hurricanes hockey fan and former hockey player, Stu was a starting goalie playing both Travel and High School hockey in Illinois and NC winning several championships but more importantly enjoying the team comradery and being with the guys.

Stu is survived by his loving grandmother Thelma, devoted and loving parents Jerry and Melissa, and his two sisters Mariel and Hannah who dearly loved and supported their brother through good times and bad. Stu was warmly embraced by his extended family in Ontario and so enjoyed being in their company.

Stu returned home to Holly Springs on December 22 for Christmas and these last five days we all shared as family were so full of warmth, love, embraces and life. It was truly a magical time that we are so thankful and grateful for. His love for our entire family was genuine as was our love for him without condition. We take peace and comfort in knowing nothing was left unsaid between any of us.

Rest in peace our handsome son. You will forever be in our hearts. We will love you always Stu-boo. Dad, Mom, Mariel, Hannah and Nanny. xoxo

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Bass Lake in Holly Springs.
