Stuart Woodson Garrett passed away at his home on April 2, 2017 at age 96. Predeceased by his parents Thomas A. Garrett and Bessie Lee Bowles, brothers Thomas and Curtis, sister Evelyn, and daughter Judith. He is survived by step-brother Wayne Garrett, step-sister Irene Snelling and extended family in the Richmond, Virginia area.
After joining the Army, he served in the 104th Infantry known as "The Timberwolves" as a forward observer in World War II serving in Germany, France and Holland. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Richmond, after which he worked as a tax accountant for many years. He helped start Woodlawn Little League and was an active participant in Little League Baseball for over 30 years.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Sharon "Shay" Garrett, three sons Michael, Alex, and Tim; two daughters, Beth DeBiase and Vicki Waizenegger and 9 grandchildren, Christina, Kenneth, Max, Maddie, Nicholas, Emily, Rebekah, Abby and Sarah.
A service to celebrate Stuart's life will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 11 am at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield. Family will receive friends beginning at 10 am. Interment to follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria.
