Suzanne Elizabeth Krpalek Black, 60, formerly of Albany, died suddenly on June 12, 2017 at her home in Happy Valley, Oregon with her partner, Dan Dutton at her side. She had battled her diabetes the last several years and died of complications of this terrible disease. Suzy was born October 26, 1956 in Albany, Oregon to her parents, John and Edith Krpalek. She spent her early years attending St. Mary's School, Memorial Middle School and West Albany High School. She enjoyed being involved in Girl Scouts and as a counselor for Outdoor School. She was a gifted musician, and enjoyed belonging to West Albany's choir. She loved music. During her graduation, she surprised all of her family by playing the guitar and singing to her classmates and others in attendance. The family was so proud of her. Suzy continued her education at Oregon State University pursuing a teaching degree. She loved children and would have made a terrific teacher but her artistic side moved her in a different direction. She pursued floral and craft design, which included traveling to different cities as a buyer and designing the store displays during the major holidays for Oregon Craft and Floral, and Michaels. She retired her professional career with Frank Adams Wholesale Florists. Along Suzy's life journey, she made many friends and enjoyed their relationships. She was a honest, genuine, thoughtful, caring and a generous person. She had a great sense of humor and wit around her friends. She always loved children, and surrounded herself with her nieces, nephews and cousins growing up. She touched so many lives in such a positive way. She loved Dan, her family, her friends, her dogs, Kalypso and McKenzie, and her cat, Drexler (Named after Clyde). Fishing and crabbing, sightseeing, traveling, camping, gardening, along with sporting events, were some of her favorite things. She was a great OSU Beaver and Portland Trailblazer fan. Her game day parties were always "the event". She played host and provided everyone a day to remember with her exceptional cooking and baking skills. She always credited her Mother for teaching her the skills of canning, baking and cooking at her early age. She made so many people happy! Suzy had a heart of gold and was so caring. However, her life really became fulfilled about eight years ago when she met the love of her life, Dan. They both met at an OSU Beaver event and they became inseparable from that day forward. Her Christian faith was always strong. She was a great example on how to live life and treat all people with love and respect. The Golden Rule was always in effect. The family thanks the many people that were involved with Suzy's health care during these past years. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Krpalek. She is survived by her partner, Dan Dutton, Happy Valley, OR; one sister, Judy Mespelt of Albany; three brothers, Greg Krpalek, (Mary), of Albany; Bill Krpalek, (Hedy)of Springfield; and Tim Krpalek of Albany; two aunts; Erma Pratt of Salem, OR; Marion Eddy of Lincoln City area; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family thanks everyone for their support and love. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the following in C/O Fisher Funeral Home: The Oregon Diabetic Association; SafeHaven Humane Society; or the OSU Foundation.
