Sylvia Rose Forrest Wilson transitioned peacefully in the presence of her family on June 10, 2017. She was born on April 19, 1947, in Clarendon, Jamaica, to parents, Edward Forrest and Claudine Williams. Sylvia spent her early years in Kemps Hill and Chapelton, Clarendon, where she grew up with her father and step-mother, Amy Brown. She is predeceased by her parents, step-mother and siblings, Katrie Forrest and Nerissa Edwards.

A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She had an unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Life Purpose Church and the Bridge of Friendship Women’s Ministry at City Life Church, both in Tampa, Florida. Sylvia found comfort in reading her Bible and Daily Word each day. She started and ended each day prayerfully. An avid sports fan and ardent supporter of all Florida sports teams, she was a die-hard supporter of her beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

She had the good fortune of enjoying her final years as a retiree after working as a nurse for more than 40 years in Jamaica and the United States (New Jersey and Florida). During her retirement, Sylvia spent her days at the local YMCA, knitting, traveling, and exploring the Tampa Bay area with her close friends and family. Sylvia also loved going on cruises and spent a lot of time caring for friends and family when they were ill.

Although Sylvia was diagnosed with cancer in February 2016, she remained strong and positive throughout several rounds of chemotherapy and multiple hospitalizations. In her final days, Sylvia was cared for by the staff at Carrollwood Care Center, to whom her family will remain eternally grateful.

Sylvia’s memories will be cherished by those she leaves behind --- her children, Beryl, Garfield, Desseree, Suzzette, Shelly-Ann and Lavern; grandchildren, Donahue, Kimberly, Gina, Christol, Vanessa, Gary Jr. and Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Ezra and Mackenzie; sisters, Joy and Shanomi; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will accept visitors at Blount & Curry Funeral Home Carrollwood on Friday, June 16, 2017, between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Life Purpose Church on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Bob Lyons. A repast will follow in the church hall following the service.

The family would like to express our gratitude for the outpouring of love and support. We are deeply grateful to the numerous friends, and healthcare providers who assisted with Sylvia’s care. Ms. Dorothea, Ms. Deleita and our dear Aunt Joy, went over and above to care for Sylvia and there are no words to thank you for your kindness.

Whether you prayed for, called, visited or even thought of us during this time, please accept our heartfelt gratitude.
