Sylvia Sidney Butler, the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Ester Dorsey was born September 14,1937 in Clarksville, Maryland. Her brother and sisters who preceded her in death were: Robert (Lee), Gloria (Pete), Vivian (Sally) Thelma, and Shirley. Sylvia quietly departed this life September 28,2016 after a lengthy illness. (Flute ) as she was lovingly known received her Elementary education in Dayton Maryland. Her secondary education was at Harriet Tubman High School and Carver H.S., she completed her education at Wheaton High. On March 27,1958 Sylvia married William Vinson Butler and from this union two children, Sharon Anne and William Vinson Butler Jr. were born. Sylvia worked at several jobs before she started her career at The National Geographic, Washington D.C. in the archives Department where she retired in 1978. Sylvia enjoyed Bowling, Bingo and Softball. She loved to bake and make homemade Root Beer, jams and jellies. She looked forward to having the whole family over for Christmas Dinner every year. Sylvia was also the family historian. She leaves to mourn her devoted husband, William Butler, Sr.; two children Sharon and William, Jr.; one granddaughter Kirtin Butler; two great-granddaughters, Chloe, and Taylor.; two sisters Betty Pumphrey, (Jimmie) and Faye Johnson; three brothers, Joseph, Jr., Richard (Ruth) and William; a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
