Thais Astugue Calamia passed on April 12, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born and raised in New Orleans and lived in Metairie for the past 62 years where she was the co-owner of Custom Draperies by Calamia. She was preceded in death by her husband, S.J. Calamia; and two daughters, Linda C. Schiffer and Mary E. Calamia. Survived by two sons, Stephen J. Calamia and Ronald J. Calamia and her granddaughter Christina M. Calamia; eight more grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, natural artistic talent, and her excellent Roast Beef and Gravy. A Mass will be held at Noon on Friday, April 21 at her Alma Mater Ursuline Academy’s National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State Street burial to follow at Lake Lawn Park. The visitation will begin at 11a.m. In lieu of sending flowers the family requests potted plants so that they may be planted in her memory.
