Thelma E. Collins, age 97 of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on May 26, 2017. She was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt. Daughter of the late Luther Young and Grace Harwood Collins of Chattanooga, TN, Miss Collins was preceded in death by her brother Robert L. Collins and his wife Janice D. of Jacksonville, FL; and her great-nephew, Tyler Collins Rampey of Fort Collins, CO.

Miss Collins was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 27, 1919. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High School and later attended the Edmondson's School of Business. Thelma was a resident of East Ridge for 73 years and was currently residing at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehabilitation Facility.

Miss Collins worked three years at Sears, Roebuck and Company and a year at the Fort Oglethorpe Post Exchange. Thelma worked for the Railway Express Agency and was a charter member of Railway Business Women. She retired after 16 years of service, when her Railway Express office was closed. Miss Collins then began a long career with the Tennessee Valley Authority in the Materials Division, retiring in 1984 after 25 years of service.

Miss Collins has been a member of the Brainerd Baptist Church since 1938. She was active in Sunday School, the Baptist Women, the Visitation Program, the Keenagers, the Senior Adult Choir, and the Homebound Ministries.

Miss Collins is survived by her two nieces, Cynthia Collins Rampey and her husband Fred of Fort Collins, CO, and Pamela Collins Stein and her husband James of Jacksonville, FL; and her great-niece, Erin Rampey Bohlin and her husband Sam of Boulder, CO.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 on Friday, June 2 at The Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel on Moore Road. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 at Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Rowland of Brainerd Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brainerd Baptist Church, 300 Brookfield Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37411.
