Greensboro- Mrs. Thelma Lucille "Lucy" Blakewood, 92, passed away at her residence on December 15, 2015. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM, Saturday, December 19 at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory chapel with Reverend Tom Jolly officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Lucy was one of six children born in Alexander County to the late William and Plezzie Deal Bebber. She was a very bright and intellectually gifted young girl, graduating from high school a year early and successfully passing the civil service exam which led to work as the chaplain's secretary in Greensboro at the ORD during WWII. After the war ended she was promoted to the IRS and retired in 1985. While working at ORD she met and married Van Patrick McClellan Jr., who preceded her in death in 1978. Lucy was an active member of her community and church, holding memberships at Lindley Park Baptist Church, where she taught children's Sunday school for many years and participated in WMU and Hinshaw United Methodist Church where she served with Women's Circle and enjoyed her role in the card ministry. She was a member of Sedgefield Lady Lion's Club, serving as president at one time and also a member of Eastern Star. It was during her time with the Lady Lion's Club she met Ben Blakewood. He courted her with roses from his garden and when the time came she said "yes". For almost 21 years they were one another's constant companion especially enjoying traveling extensively. Ben kept Lucy active and Lucy kept Ben grounded, they were each other's balance. Family was everything to Lucy and she relished time with her great grandchildren and loved to discuss the lives of her brothers and sisters. She was a true southern lady with a delicate charming manner and grateful for the life she had.

Lucy is survived by her children and their spouses, Robert and Ashlyn McClellan of Summerfield and Pat and Tim Buck of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jonathan Buck and wife Lindsay, Sarah Langdon and husband Graham, Courtney McClellan and Cameron McClellan; brother, Clyde Bebber and wife Geneva of Statesville; sister, Linda Cesena of Charlottep; step children and their spouses, Ben and Marcia Blakewood III of Chapin, SC and David and Lisa Blakewood of Pleasant Garden and Mary Lynn and Mason Cox of Emerald Isle; three step grandchildren and their spouses, Mason and Jennifer Cox, Jeffrey and Julie Cox and Jessica and Ray Bower; and several great and step great grandchildren.
