Theodora Rebecca Burke-Teddie-was born April 26, 1942 to Margaret and James Burke, the youngest of their five daughters (a son was adopted later). She was born and raised in Petaluma, California, and at seventeen met the love of her life, Leo Jay Coonradt (Ltc., U.S. Army, Ret.)-a soldier assigned to nearby Two Rock Station. They were married on February 17, 1960.
In her 75 years, Teddie travelled with her love to Japan, throughout Europe and the United States, and supported him to the best of her abilities through his assignments as an officer of the U.S. Army, his work as a civilian, and his retirement trips with their motor home. She gave birth to three children, mourned one and raised two.
Teddie made casseroles and cupcakes and crocheted; loved art and music and birds and Jesus. She led Girl Scout troops and Bible Studies; volunteered for low-income children, the Red Cross, women facing unplanned pregnancies, and homeless men and women. She gave freely of her time and money to her church and the causes that touched her heart. She embraced her sons-in-law as her own children and welcomed each of her three grandchildren with great joy.
Teddie was creative and honest and loving and funny and complicated, and she will be missed by her family and friends who rest in the comfort that she is now free from fear and pain with the One who calls her "Beloved."
Teddie passed away on October 6, 2017 in Draper, Utah after a struggle with congestive heart failure and ovarian cancer. She was preceded in death by her first child, Martin Jay Coonradt; her parents; sisters Jane Pereira and Irene Harrell; and her brother James Burke. She is survived by her husband Leo; sisters Marian Thiel and Jimmie Hall (Jerry) of Petaluma; daughters Rebecca Ann Mabe (Scott), and Rachael Coonradt Bishop (Joe); grandchildren Jessica Bond (Paul), Miah Mabe (Aubrie), and Jaclyn Mabe; and four beautiful great-grandchildren: Bliss, Neko, Cole, and Fox.
Services will be held at Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church (7762 South 700 West, Midvale, UT) on October 12, 2017. There will be a viewing at 9:00 a.m. followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. Internment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City) after the service. Following will be a luncheon at Cornerstone.
In lieu of flowers, Teddie would love donations sent to organizations that support children (and their families) in need, particularly Pregnancy Resource Center of Salt Lake City (pregnancyresource.net ), and Save the Children (savethechildren.org).
