Thomas James Halley, 80, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on June 2, 2017. Thomas was born on April 16, 1937 in Crockett, Texas to Pearl Johnson and "John" Lee Halley. Thomas was also known to friends and family as "Pete" and "T.J.". Upon the passing of his mother, Pearl, when he was a young child, he moved to Arizona to live with his Uncle and Aunt, Clinton and Ruby Johnson in Chandler, Arizona. Thomas was educated in the Crockett, TX and Coolidge, AZ school systems. In the mid 1960's Thomas moved to San Diego, CA where he lived and worked for several years before moving back to Phoenix, AZ. Upon his return to Phoenix he was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix and later the Hilton Hotel where he was employed until his retirement. Late in Life, Thomas had a special love in his life, Ruby Waters. He considered her and family as his family also, treasuring them all. He had many friends and 'Domino partners' at his residence at Tanner Gardens. Thomas was a kind, positive, gentle person with a loving and never complaining personality. He had a special love for 'soul food', vintage cars, Dominoes and the Lottery. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends. A Funeral Service celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Willow Grove Baptist Church, 4401 S. 7th Place, Phoenix, AZ 85040. Visitation will be held one hour prior also at the church. Interment will follow at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Blvd, Chandler, AZ 85248. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Melcher Chapel of the Roses, Mesa, AZ.
