Tom Allen Veitch, 68, of Longwood, FL passed away unexpectedly on February 11, 2017. He was born to Robert Edward and Marion Veitch in Orlando, FL on August 11, 1948. Tom was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, and friend to many. Early in life, he worked as an electrician with his uncles in Chicago. He then entered the United States Army, during which time he received a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. Tom proudly served his country and also earned the Bronze Star, Medal of Valor, Combination Medal, and Air Medal. He was a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, the last division to jump into a battle. Tom was also an entrepreneur as a private pilot and had a passion for experimental airplanes. He assembled, fixed, and flew these planes throughout his lifetime. After his service, Tom moved to Florida and became a Deputy Sheriff for Seminole County. He served for 2 years in this role before returning back to his work as an electrician. Tom had a deep love for his faithful dog, Snoodle. Snoodle assisted Tom in socializing, and although he claimed himself to be shy, Tom had many, many friends. He was a member of multiple associations, including the Purple Heart Association, 173rd Airborne Association, and the Experimental Aircraft Association, and was also a member of the Florida Flying Gators. He had a special bond with his nephew, Kevin, who considered him a father. Tom will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
