Every once in a long while, an extraordinary person comes into this world and leaves an irreplaceable mark on the hearts of those around. It is impossible to quantify the massive impact that Tom Waddell had on the world around him, but we will always remember and cherish his kindness, his compassion, and his overwhelming generosity. Just his simple presence would light up a whole room and bring joy to everyone around. Tom passed away July 20, 2017.

Tom was an entrepreneur and a pillar in the construction industry. An avid family-oriented man, he loved fishing, boating, and acting as a local milkshake connoisseur. He was an Eagle Scout, a warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and an Ararat Shriner. He passed along his knowledge and passion to friends and family throughout his years, serving on the board of directors at Sterling National Bank, the Missouri State Dam Commission, and as president of Lake Lotawana Association. He served as a role model and mentor to all around him, and he never had a dull moment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Genece, his son Mike, and his grandson Jaden. He is survived by the love of his life for 59 years, Teresa Losapio Waddell; his son John (Manuela), grandchildren Manuel, JJ, and Jack, and great grandchild Manuel; his daughter Denece (Eric), and grandchildren Benjamin and Lucia, and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 N Liberty St. in Independence with a celebration of life to follow. Burial will be at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. Donations may be made to the University of Kansas Cancer Center or to the church.
