Vera Leonchik Furcich
September 26, 1922 - March 29, 2017

Vera Leonchik Furcich, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2017 in Mesa, AZ, where she had been a resident for 44 years following raising her family in Downers Grove, Illinois from 1954 to 1973. She was born in Argo, Illinois, a small town outside of Chicago, and lived a very long, happy and healthy life as a devoted wife, a busy mother and a caring homemaker. Vera had a short career as a secretary for Electro Motive and loved family, nature, feeding birds and squirrels, camping, vacations out West and to Canada, long walks, bingo, playing card games (especially solitaire), reading books daily, crafts, knitting, crocheting and shopping sales. Following the news and current events on TV and through various newspapers was one of her passions. She loved having long discussions with her family about rundowns of what was going on in the world. All of her life skills were gifts to others during her leadership in Girl Scouts for seven years while her girls were growing up. Rather late in life, Vera worked as an office receptionist and administrative assistant in a retirement community where she lived and later as a carefree retiree, who enjoyed long day trips by bus with friends. Between 1980 and 2000, she traveled to London 18 times to spend time with her daughter and grandson, exploring other European destinations on many of these trips. She was a member of Club Metro, a Russian dance and chorus group, and loved to sing while working around the house. Her family for her honesty, trustworthiness, generosity and dependability will remember Vera.

Vera was the beloved wife of the late John, who preceded her in death on November 27, 1982, loving mother of Anita (Boston, MA) and Nina (London, England) (Harley), adored grandmother of Adrian (Norfolk, England) (Caroline) and proud great grandmother of Georgia (Norfolk, England). Vera was born to Russian immigrant parents, Wesley and Xenia Leonchik, and was the fifth of 8 children: the late Vasil "Bill" (the late Tania), the late Nick, the late Fred "Fritz" (the late Alexandra "Elsie"), the late Andrew (the late Rose), the late Harry (Eleanor), the late Walter (the late Natalie) and the late Mary "Manya" (the late John Jalovec) and is survived by many nieces and nephews.
