Vera Colgate, Age 88 of Mesa, Arizona passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at the Red Mountain Senior Home. Vera was a long-time resident of Miami, Arizona where she lived from 1955 until she moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2001.Vera Mae Boulton was born January 15, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to Glen and Pearl Boulton. She grew up in historic Four Mile House near Cherry Creek Colorado with her younger sister, Delores Davis. Vera left home to attend Colorado A&M in Ft. Collins, Colorado in the fall of 1946 where she pledged Beta Sigma Phi. There she met George Colgate. They were married on August 8, 1947. Vera & George raised three children- two sons and one daughter. They are Jim Colgate of California, Ken Colgate of Nevada and Sandy Miller of Arizona. She had seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many other friends and relatives. Vera had several jobs as her family was growing up. She worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer. She also worked as a substitute teacher in the Miami Arizona school district from 1968 to 1976. Once her children were grown, she worked from 1978 to 1997 as a tax assessor for Gila County, in Globe, AZ. She attended University of Phoenix and graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1983.Vera's favorite color was purple, the color of royalty. Vera loved to entertain her friends with dinner parties and cookouts. She won many blue ribbons for her baking. She especially liked to make homemade cookies. In her younger years she was very active with her squared dancing and bridge card clubs. In her later years at home Vera took special care of Kitty, a cat she rescued when one of her friends passed away and no one else would take the cat. Vera loved to sit with Kitty on her lap and brush his fur. The memorial service will be October 29, 2016 at fountain of the Sun, in Mesa, at 2pm. She will be laid to rest in Colorado, when the entire family can gather.
