Vernon was born on June 3, 1923 and passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018.

Vernon was a resident of Catawba, North Carolina at the time of passing.

Vernon graduated from Catawba High School and joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. His military career was spent in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean conflict, he proudly served from 1941 - 1960, before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.

Those left to cherish his memory are; Daughter: Arlene Spencer Sigmon and husband Michael of Catawba Sister-In-Law: Virginia Stewart Ledford of Denver Grandchildren: John "Matthew" Sigmon and wife Kelsey of Lancaster, OH Great-Grandchildren: Addison Kenley Sigmon and Nolan Matthew Sigmon, both of Lancaster, OH Special Friends: Mr. and Mrs. James Stewart, Col. Joe Hall, Debbie Arndt, and his caregiver Rose A service to celebrate Vernon's life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba. Burial with military honors by American Legion Post 16 will follow at St. Marks Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. (Town of Catawba Historical Association), P.O.
