Vernon Oswald Harris, Jr. passed away on March 20, 2017. He was born March 1, 1945 and grew up in Washington, NC. Vernon graduated from NC State with both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering.

Since 2002, he worked at the USDA Rural Development Office as a State Engineer. Vernon served in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. Vernon was a dedicated and active member of Rotary International for 37 years.

He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving family includes: Phyllis Marie (wife); Vernon III & Melody (son and daughter in law), Michael & Lily (son and daughter in law), Melissa & Aaron Banner (daughter and son in law), Liam 13, Brennan 11, and Carrie Anne 3 (grand children).

Vernon will always be remembered as an ambitious, charismatic, and energetic man who loved sports, fishing, dancing, and every day God gave him.

Vernon was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Raleigh. His funeral service will be held there on Saturday, March 25th at 2:30PM.
