Vernon Ray McCombs, age 93, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
Mr. McCombs was born on May 9, 1924 in Enville, TN, son of the late Lonnie D. McCombs and Pearl Woods McCombs.
Mr. McCombs was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and ministered as a Deacon, Sunday School Leader and volunteer. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was the owner/operator of McCombs Ice Cream Company in Grenada, MS for over thirty years. He finished his career in the ice cream business at Luvel Dairies in Kosciusko, MS.
His hobbies included piloting his Cesna 172 and camping in the great outdoors. His greatest joy was spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Marene Harwell McCombs; brothers, Roy McCombs; sister, Louise Plunk.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy (Gary) Rechtfertig; sons, Stan (Betty) McCombs and Stephen (Tonia) McCombs; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 21st of May, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Don Hattaway and Rev. Richard Brown officiating. A service will also be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Monday the 22nd of May, 2017 at Enville Baptist Church, Enville, TN with Rev. Stacy Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Enville, TN.
Friends are cordially invited to a gathering with the family for one hour prior to service time at Tabernacle Baptist Church and also at Enville Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers are the Adult Men's Life Group.
In lieu of customary remembrances memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Mission Fund at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
