Victor John Eberhard, 93, passed away on April 20. Vic was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth “Bette” Jones, his grandson, Andrew Bright Eberhard, and his four siblings. Born on October 3, 1923 in Garfield, New Jersey, Vic lived his days by the creed “God, family, country.” Vic proudly served in the United States Army for twenty years, retiring with the rank of Major in 1964. Vic’s military career included overseas duty in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and many years as an Army Reservist. Vic met his future wife, Bette, at Officers Candidate School in New Orleans when he “cut in” during a military base dance with one of the greatest pick-up lines of all-time: “With your weight and my speed, we could really go places.” And go places they did, for 55 years of blessed matrimony.

A graduate of Georgia State University, Vic also studied Business Law at Atlanta Law School. Vic began a highly accomplished 34-year career with Allstate Insurance Company in 1956. During his tenure at Allstate, Vic won multiple national top agent sales awards. Vic and Betty were long-time members of Oglethorpe Presbyterian and later Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where Vic served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Stephens Minister, and Bible study leader. In addition, Vic also served on multiple committees at Peachtree Presbyterian.

A long-time Brookhaven resident, Vic was a true community leader with various organizations. His enthusiastic community involvement included PTA president, Chamblee High School Touchdown Club President , Kiwanis Club Member, as well as many years as a baseball coach at Murphey Candler Park.

Survivors include his three children, Greg Eberhard (Nancy) of West Lafayette, IN, Randy Eberhard (Susie) of Sandy Springs, GA and Vicki Eberhard Moore (Paul) of St. Simons Island, GA, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
