Violet was born in Leslie, MI on March 28, 1921. She lived through the depression and had said that though it had been a difficult time for her parents it had been a happy time of her life. In 1938 she married Howard Bouts. They were married 60 years and had 5 children (3 died soon after birth). She helped her husband with farm work while he worked at a Lansing factory. They also cared for foster children, adopting one of them (Jean Marie). Later she worked for Sears and was manager of the hosiery and handbag dept. She retired in the mid 70's after having worked there for many years.
Violet was a member of the Aurelius Baptist Church, the Greater Lansing Doll Collectors Club and the Mason Area Senior Citizens Group. She enjoyed collecting dolls and also refurbishing them along with stuffed animals and donating them to needy children.
She and her husband loved to travel in their Airstream trailer. They traveled around the U.S. and in winters parked at an Airstream park on Sam Rayburn Lake in Texas with other relatives.
