Mary Virginia Corby Vann passed away February 9 in Atlanta, Georgia following brief illness. She is survived by her husband Donald C. Vann, daughter Vicki Vann Carayiannis, grandsons Alexander Carayiannis and Robert Rountree and son-in-law Ken Large. Two daughters, Virginia Vann (Ken Large) and Lynn Rountree preceded her in death.

The daughter of Ruby and James Corby, Virginia was born in December 22, 1927 in Pennsylvania, and grew up in Talladega, Alabama. She was a graduate of Auburn University where she met her husband. Don was a member of a University choral group that Virginia accompanied as pianist. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Following graduation, the couple moved to Birmingham, AL then to Dunwoody, Georgia where they raised their family. Virginia was a teacher’s assistant and continued her love of music, teaching her daughters to play the piano and serving as a pianist at schools, nursing homes and various events at the church. She often played the piano for the residents of Brookdale Independent Living where she and Don lived for 6 years. She was the epitome of a southern lady, always gracious and stylish and devoted to Don and her daughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dunwoody United Methodist Church Music Program.
