Virginia “Ginny” Lelia May Gawen Lumsden passed away on August 22, 2017. She was born in the District of Columbia on June 28, 1929, the daughter of Arthur and Thelma Gawen, who preceded her in death. Virginia is the beloved wife of the late George Lumsden, Jr.; Loving mother of Ken (Pat) Lumsden, of Winston-Salem, NC, daughter-in-law Cathy Jacobs of New Mexico, Gail (Greg) Henderson of Keysville, VA, Paul (Donna) Lumsden of Marshall, VA, and John (Toni) Lumsden of Fairfax, VA, and the late Philip Lumsden; Cherished grandmother of Brian, Carrie, and Charlie Lumsden of Riverside, CA, Leslie (Ryan) Badger of Keysville, VA, Ashley (Daniel) Yates of Hampton, VA, Paul Lumsden, Jr of Richmond, Va. Carly Lumsden of Remington VA, Leighann Webb of Tampa, FL, John (Julia) Lumsden of Centreville, VA, and Nicole Hunt of Fairfax, VA; Dear great-grandmother of 10, and great, great-grandmother of 1. She is loved by many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends, including sister, Joan Powell, of Annandale, VA, dear friend/cousin/sister-in-law Ann Clark Lumsden of St. Augustine, FL, and dear friend and aunt Dot Birch (Ray) of Fairfax, VA. Ginny grew up in Arlington and was a graduate of Washington and Lee High School. In WWII and for six years after, she served in the OSS/CIA with her life-long friend, Terri Rohr, of Columbia, MD. She retired after many years of service with Fairfax County Government. Ginny will always be remembered for her love and support of her children, the loving care she showed her husband George during his extended illnesses, and her sense of humor, uplifting spirit and positive outlook on life. The family will receive friends and family at Demaine Funeral Home – Fairfax on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2 – 4 PM. A service will follow at the funeral home on Monday morning at 11 AM. Interment will take place at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
