Virginia I. Head, 82 of Granite City passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Virginia was born on September 10, 1932 in Summersville, MO; a daughter to the late Benjamin Allen and Mary Dicey (Coffey) Bandy. Virginia was a life long homemaker and mom. Virginia gave her heart to Christ at the age of 10 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Granite City for over 60 years. She gave of her time by visiting members of the church that were shut in and had a fondness for pink flowers. She will be remembered for the love of her family and the many special times they shared together. She is survived by and will be missed by her daughters; Ruth Ann and (Wayne D.) Taylor of Florissant, MO, Sandra J. and (James F.) Bradfield of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Sarah and (Jeff) Steiner, William and (Brittany) Douglas, Michelle and (Jason) Brown; great-grandchildren, Payton Steiner, Jackson Steiner, Samantha Brown, Alexis Brown, Tyler Brown, Jeremiah Brown; brother, Claude and (Martha) Bandy; sister-in-law, Betty Bandy; special friend and neighbor, Pauline Demery. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband; Hershel R. Head, whom she married on October 7, 1950; her grandson, Jeremy Word; her brothers, Virgil Bandy, Ray Bandy. Friends may call on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Charles West officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Summersville City Cemetery in Summersville, MO.
