Vivian Economy, 84, of Atlanta, GA, passed away January, 17, 2017. She was born in Kalamata, Greece on December 19, 1932. She was married to Dr. Nick Takakis and was a devoted Yiayia to her grandson, Peter, (Harouli), the light of her life. She attended Georgia State University and she received a certification from the Columbia School of Broadcasting. Vivian worked in her broadcasting career for over 50 years. She hosted “Echoes of Athens”, one of the first Greek-American radio programs in the Southeast. She had many devoted listeners for generations. She loved music, politics and travel. Vivian had a passion for the fine arts and served for many years on the Fulton County Arts Council and the Georgia Council for the Arts. She founded and served on the board of the American Hellenic Friends of the Arts which offered many events in the Atlanta area. She was preceded in death by her husband Nick; parents, William and Eugenia Economy and brother, Pete Economy. She is survived by her daughters Ginnie (Rob) Roglin, Vickie Henson; grandson, Peter Roglin; sister, Nena Simitses and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held to honor Vivian at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, 2500 Clairmont Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at H M Patterson Oglethorpe Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Rd. NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation.
