Wallace Layne Adams of Bloomington, IN passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, January 12, his 94th birthday, at Bell Trace Independent Living. He was born on January 12, 1923 in Pensacola, Florida to Oscar L. and Ida Elizabeth (Baldwin) Adams.

Wally was married to his bride of 68 years Nicolina Joan (Viglianti) Adams on July 8, 1948. He served stateside in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Remote Control Turret Mechanic Gunner from February 1943 to February 1946. After the war, he joined the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C., where he and Nicolina met. Wally's job at the F.B.I. was, in part, to listen in on J. Edgar Hoover's phone calls ! He then went into the insurance business with Prudential and multiple other companies, owned an art gallery in Charlotte, N.C. with Nicolina, and owned a Sales Consultants recruiting agency in Greensboro, N.C.

Wally and Nicky retired to Apopka, Florida in 1990, where he was a longtime usher at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and a member of The Masonic Lodge.

Wally was a tinkerer and a fixer. His favorite tools were duct tape and baling twine. He was a friend to everyone he met, and loved to talk over his favorite drink, a scotch and water. He was a true southern gentleman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother O.L. (Dee) Adams, and sister Katrina (Jack) Cowley, and his grandson Wade S. Steffey.

He is survived by his wife, Nicolina, brother David (Carole), daughter Dawn E. Adams (Dale Steffey), son W. Layne Adams, Jr. (Wendy), grandchildren Elizabeth Abernethy (Matt) and Nicholas Adams, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on March 11, 2017 at the Baldwin-Fairchild Apopka chapel with Father Charles Deeney officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka. Online condolences may be made at www.baldwinfairchild.com.
