Walter B. Herbrich, 96, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Thursday, August 31, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born August 18, 1921 to Paul and Emma (Zoch) Herbrich in Winchester, Texas, one of eight children. Walter was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Winchester.
Walter retired from Texas Instruments where he was a tool designer. He loved to play the organ and was organist at several Lutheran churches in the area. He served as organist at Gethsemane Lutheran Church for 22 years.
Walter's passion in life was inventing, or as some might call it, tinkering. He could fix anything and invented things to make his life easier and to build all kinds of equipment. Walter also loved telling jokes - some favorites he would repeat for you at the drop of a hat.
Walter is survived by two sons, Ken, wife Pat, and Ray, wife Debbie. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren, who called him "Walter the Great." Walter is also survived by his sister, Adele Wilson and husband Joe of Winchester, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Arline Ethel (Froehlich) Herbrich and son Larry Herbrich. Three sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5pm - 8pm, at Heights Funeral Home. Funeral Service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 10AM @ Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 4040 Watonga, Houston, Texas 77092. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Walter's name can be directed to Gethsemane Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
