Walter was born to James Bernard Gannon & Rena Lucas Gannon on August 18, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa. His mother died when he was 6 years old and he and his siblings were raised by his grandmother. They endured many hardships during the depression and to help, Walter had a paper route and sold vegetables to neighbors. Walter enlisted in the Army during WWII and swerved as a flight engineer/mechanic for the Army Air corps in Panama. After discharge, he returned to Des Moines and worked as a sales man for the continental Bakery. Walter married Norma Jean Briggle in 1949. He joined the Iowa Air National Guard and was ordered in active service during the Korean War in which he served as a Tech Sargent in the 174th Bomber Squadron. After discharge, Walt and Norma and their children moved to Tucson in 1958. Walter went work at Holsum Bakery where he started out in sales and later became the manager of route sales until his retirement in 1985. He married Denise y McKeever in 1969 and she passed away on November 25, 2005. Walter met his kindred soul Sherry Highet in 2006 and they became loving companions until his death. Walter loved fishing, golf and later enjoyed dancing with Sherry at the American Legion Post 36 & the Elks Club on Oracle.
Walter was preceded in Death by his daughter Stephanie Jo Gannon. He is survived by his love Sherry Highet, daughter Denise Gannon, son Casey Gannon, Daughter Meegan (Trey) Jefferson, daughter Lori (Ted) James, 7 Grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Don (Donna) Wellen, Germaine (George) Vincent, John (Marilyn) McKeever and Richard (Scott) McKeever. \
Services will be at East Lawn Palms Chapel, 5801 E Grant Rd, Tucson AZ 85712, on Tuesday January 16th at 2:00 pm. Military Honors following at graveside.
