Walter "Coot" Rowland, 90, of Valdosta, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Clinch Healthcare, Homerville. He was born October 12, 1922 in Valdosta, a son of the late Willis and Annie Nell Allbritton Rowland. For nearly 60 years Coot raced automobiles at many venues, including the Thunderbowl Speedway, and was at one time a stunt driver. He was employed as a taxi driver before becoming a truck driver for the Langdale Co. Mr. Rowland loved racing, fishing and dancing. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Earl Spurlock of Valdosta, Becky Woods of Ashland City, TN, and Sue and Danny Clanton of Mt. Juliet, TN; six grandchildren, Lisa and husband Bruce Hayden of Valdosta, Jeff Fisk of Hahira, Missy Lewis of Albuquerque, NM, Charlie Moon of Valdosta, Kim Moon of Ashland City, TN, and Suzanne and husband Shane Bundy of Mt. Juliet, TN; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles Morris "Smokey" and Esther Rowland of Valdosta; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Rowland; a granddaughter, Stacy Leddington; and three brothers, Ralph, F.M., and Henry Rowland. The Funeral Service for Mr. Rowland will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Ward officiating. Interment will follow at Redland Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
