Walton Russell Cook, 83, was born in Newhall, California on April 16, 1933. Walton passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho.
Walton was raised in Newhall, California by Walter and Pearl Cook with his sister Patricia Cook Bennett and brother Stanley Cook. The family owned a dairy farm in Newhall, California. Walton attended High School at Hart High where he was on the Varsity team for Basketball and Baseball. Walton was drafted into the Korean War and served as a Combat Engineer and then was honorably discharged after two years of military service. His Father passed away while he was in the Army and he went home to help tend to the family farm. Walton attended Occidental College and UCLA where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business.
Walton married the love of his life, Judith Mae Freudenthal on November 21st 1959. They lived in San Fernando, California and had 3 children, Lawrence, Christine and Curtis. In 1973, the family moved to Boise, Idaho.
At a young age Walton worked for the California Forest Service as a Firefighter. After leaving the Forest Service he worked in the Insurance Industry as a Senior Claims Adjustor in California and Idaho.
He was an avid skier, loved baseball (especially the Pittsburgh Pirates) and was a proud BSU BAA member for over 30 years. He and Judy had season tickets for many years and attended most all of the Boise State football games in and out of town.
Walton's twin grandchildren Blake and Jennifer were born in 1992. He was extremely proud of and took great joy in watching them grow up and seeing their accomplishments.
Walton was a wonderful Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Uncle. He had many friends that he kept in contact with through the years dating back to High School years. He attended his last reunion this October. Walton was always friendly was able to strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved talking about baseball, BSU football and current events.
Walton is survived by his 3 children, Lawrence Cook, Christine (Cook) Harpham and Curtis Cook. His 2 grandchildren, Blake and Jennifer Harpham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearl, his sister Patricia (Cook) Bennett, his brother Stanley, his wife Judy and son in law Eric Harpham.
The family would like to give a huge Thank You to all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at St. Luke's hospital. We feel that our Father received the best care possible while he was in the hospital. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for your kindness and support for our Father and Grandfather during his time spent at St. Luke's.
Service arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Viewing on Wednesday, December 21st from 6-8pm, Funeral Service on Thursday, December 22nd at 1pm.
