1941-2017



Wanda Mahan, 76, a lifelong Boone County resident, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Boone Hospital Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Friday, July 14, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 1112 East Broadway Columbia, MO with visitation from 10 am -11 am at the church. Private interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, MO.



Wanda was born March 12, 1941 in Boone County to Claude and Lena Pauley Weldon. She was a 1959 graduate of Hickman High School, and a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church. She retired after 25 years of service from the Columbia Public Schools Board of Education as the District Registrar. Wanda was involved with Mother Singers, Philanthropic Educational Organization and several other social groups. Wanda was a wonderful communicator and was gifted in sign language interpretation for both her role at the Board of Education and in the local community. Following her retirement, she spent the past 17 years as a part time supervisor for staff events at the University of Missouri. Wanda had a passion for life and loved her family and friends dearly. She especially loved her role as Grandmother the best.



She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joe Mahan; her mother, Lena Weldon; children, Stuart (Janna) Mahan of Ashland, MO, Mike (Christi) Mahan of Jacksonville, FL, and Stephanie Mahan of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Austin, Jameson, and Kayla Mahan; and siblings, Christine Poe, Shirley Kilbourn, and Sonny (Patsy) Weldon. She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Weldon, and sister, Dorothy Collins.
