Warren Shelton Adkins
of Amherstdale, WV
Warren Shelton Adkins, 82, of Amherstdale, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 21, 2018, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after a long illness.
He was born December 14, 1935, in Lincoln County, a son of the late Ossie and Zula Neal Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Loran and Sarah Slone Wilson; brothers, Edward Lee, Norman Dale, David, and Ray Gene Adkins.
Warren was a coal miner who was employed with Pittston Coal Company for 37 years. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. District 17. Warren has been a member of the Becco United Baptist Church for 55 years. After his retirement, Warren loved to go down to the Church Camp at Salt Rock, WV and help the caretaker cut grass and do odd jobs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Berta Wilson Adkins; two daughters and their husbands, Shelly and Melvin Whitley of Statesville, NC and Sarah and Rev. Stephen Hunt of Mallory; two grandchildren, Kayla and Timothy Whitley of Statesville, NC; two sisters, Lovena Davis of Lorado and Aleata and Naaman Dunn of Amherstdale; two brothers, Lgleason "Bow" and Martha Adkins of Gilbert and James "Horsecat" Adkins and his companion, Madeline Duba of Lorado; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Becco United Baptist Church with Rev. Barney Goins assisted by Pastor P.J. Tomblin and Brother Randall Stepp. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pall bearers will be Warren's nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family would like for donations to be made to the Church Camp White Tabernacle Project at UBSSC, Box 206, Amherstdale, WV 25607.
