Wayne William Addy, 68, of Groton, MA passed away Friday, August 19th at Mass General Hospital surrounded by his family. Wayne was born in Meriden, Connecticut on September 1st 1947 and grew up in Yalesville, CT.Wayne graduated Lyman Hall High School, Quinnipiac University with a BS in Mathematics, and the University of New Haven with a MS in Computer Science. He was a U.S. Veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam War. Wayne worked as a Hardware/ Software Engineer as well as a Director of Engineering at DNE in Wallingford, CT. He moved to Massachusetts and worked as a Software Engineer and Systems Engineer for the Mitre Corporation in Bedford.He lived in Killingworth, CT, serving on the Inlands and Wetlands Commission, acting as its Chairman for several years. He also volunteered at Forgotten Felines No- Kill Cat Shelter. Upon moving to Groton, MA, he became involved with the Conservation Commission. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He was a jack- of- all –trades. Often found tinkering with things around the house, or working outside. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Bidwell Addy, a daughter, Meghan Marcia Addy, his parents, Elsie and Leroy Addy, his two brothers, Robert Addy and Richey Addy, and their wives, Renee Addy and Marie Addy, along with several nieces, nephews, and grandnephews. He was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to help others. Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew him.The visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 26th, from 4-7pm at the Badger Funeral Home; 45 School Street, Groton, MA. Funeral service held on Saturday, August 27th at 10am at the Badger Funeral Home, with burial service at the Groton Cemetery following. We would like to acknowledge the staff in the Neurology Units (Oncology and ICU) at Mass General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Wayne Addy to the Neuro Oncology fund, online at wwww.giving.massgeneral.org.
