GRUNWALD, Werner Rudolph, Age 82, of Centerville, OH, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2017. Werner was born to the late Benno Grunwald and Elsa (Wrangel) Grunwald on September 3, 1935, in Mapes North Dakota. His childhood was spent in Allenstein, East Prussia, and he returned to the United States in 1951 with his parents and brothers. He served in the United States Army in the Engineering Division; he was stationed in Bad Kissingen,Germany, played on the Army soccer team. Werner attended the University of Missouri, earning Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering. He retired from the Mead Corporation after 28 years. He was a generous and loyal man who loved his family and enjoyed cooking, playing golf, and traveling. He is preceded in death by brothers George and Claus. Werner is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Erika (Zapfe); son, Erwin (Julie); daughters, Karen Shields (Tim) and Elizabeth Schoettler (Ralph); grandchildren, Stephan (Alicia), Matthew, Nolan, Grace, Jack, Ava, Katherine, Nicole, and Sean; brother, Hubert Grunwald; sisters-in-law Liane Grunwald and Jan Grunwald; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will be greeting family and friends from 11am -12:00pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave. A service will be held at 12:00pm.
