Willard, 77, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2017, after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis Lung Disease and heart problems.

A native of Wake County, Willard was born to the late James Foy Walker and late Leola Walker-Wicks on August 22, 1939. He graduated from Apex High School in 1958. Served for seven years in the Army National Guard and enjoyed his time driving for Thurston Motorline.

Willard lived life to the fullest and always put a smile on the face of everyone he met. He loved to travel with his wife Vernell, and they did just that all over the world. Whether by car, bus, cruise ship or plane, Willard enjoyed the process of booking the trips and getting a good deal, as much as taking the trip itself. For Willard, cabin-fever would set in after only two weeks at home and a short trip to Cherokee was in order. He loved spending his winter months overlooking the ocean at North Myrtle Beach.

His claims-to-fame were: Winning Contestant on the TV-show, "The Price Is Right"; Winner of the Family Fun NASCAR Trophy; and just last month, achieving Diamond Level with Carnival Cruise Lines.

Willard loved his family and was well connected in the community. He was always the go-to person when anyone had problem or just needed advice. Willard knew what to do, who to call and how to get the best deal.

He is survived by his wife of 56½ years, Vernell Sexton Walker; Three Sons: Todd (Diana)-Apex, Steve (Cindy)-Apex, and Troy (Fanelis)-Boca Raton, Florida; Grandchildren: Kristin Walker of Charlotte, Shanon Walker of Apex, and Cole Walker, a student at East Carolina University; sister-in-law Jean Walker, wife of his late brother Earl James Walker.

Willard loved the Lord and today is basking in His presence. The breath of heaven to eternally sustain him and loved ones who have gone before him are greeting him with open arms rejoicing at his welcome home party - probably on a cruise ship in the sky!
