The family of William A Bezaire sadly, but proudly announces that he has retired to the place he worked for all his life – heaven. Born on May 4, 1927, the oldest of four children to Lawrence and Zelda Bezaire, “Bill” grew up in Detroit Michigan. At the age of 7, Bill was involved in an automobile accident and suffered a compounded fractured skull from which the doctors informed his parents that he was not expected to survive. Defying the doctor’s prognosis, Bill attended St Mary's of Redford Grade School and High School. He then matriculated to the University of Detroit, where he graduated summa cum laude with a double major in physics and mathematics. After college he enrolled in the US Navy, where he spent 4 years of active duty serving his country. While attending college, Bill met the love of his life, Gloria Lehr, who happened to be a secretary in the Physics Department at the University. They were married on May 17, 1952. Shortly after their wedding Bill was reassigned by the Navy to the National Security Agency in Washington DC. Three years later, Bill was hired to manage the fledging computer science center at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also continued his service to his country by remaining in the Naval Reserve for 26 years, reaching the rank of Commander, until mandatory retirement. He retired from Georgia Tech in 1980. He was an active member of the St Vincent de Paul Society throughout his adult life. He also served his church an usher, eucharistic minister and as an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary parents club. Wherever there was a need, Bill was there. Bill was an avid bridge player who hated to lose but accepted it gracefully numerous times. He loved to dance, travel and fiddle in his garage workshop. Bill and Gloria raised a family of three sons and one daughter in Atlanta. They also spent countless hours involved with the rearing and education of many of their grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children Bill (Cathy), Nancy, Thomas, and James (Jessica), grandchildren Olivia, Chris, Lauren, Dana and Celena, great-grandchildren Alannah, Connor, Taylor, Zander, Alena and Richard. He also leaves behind his brother, James, and two sisters Suzanne and Linda. A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 24 from 5 pm to 7 pm at H M Patterson Funeral Home, 4550 Peachtree Rd, NE, Atlanta, Ga 30319. The family will be placing his soul in God's hands on Monday, September 25, 2017, 10:00 a.m., at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2855 Briarcliff Road. Interment will follow at North Atlanta Memorial Park. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the St Vincent de Paul Society, c/o Immaculate Heart of Mary, 2855 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30329.
