William (Bill) Russell Smith, 62 passed away on Friday May 12, 2017. He was born in Weston, WV on May 9, 1955 to Wilma (Taylor) and Adrian Smith. He met the love of his life Linda Konopko and was married September 13th, 1980.
Bill served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1986 through 1997 in the 1st Calvary Infantry Division. He was involved in Operation Desert Storm and won several medals and awards. After his enlistment ended he worked for and retired from the US Postal Service in 2014.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed being with his family. He liked watching War movies and relaxing at the Mathews family home watching his great grandchildren play. He was a very special man and was adored by all.
Bill is survived by daughter Tina (William) Mathews, grandchildren Karrie (Ceeton) Pfantz, Michael (Chelsea) Mathews, Dairrian Mathews and Christopher Hanson. Great grandchildren Adrian and Kaedence Huffman, Ceeton (Reece) Pfantz. Jordan and Madison Mathews and Audrey Hanson. Sisters Vickie Pasquale, Diane (Dave) Smith, Becky Sopranik and Brother Larry (Diane) Smith as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wilma and Adrian Smith, wife Linda Smith, daughter Cathy Cornell, grandson Dustin Taylor, Sister Sandra (Susie) Valero and brother-in-law, Ben Valero.
A viewing will be held at 11am on Thursday May 18, 2017 at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home in Fairmont, WV, with Memorial Service at 12:00. Military Rites will be performed by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard and the US Army Camp Dawson.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family in loving memory of Bill. Please make checks payable to Tina or William Mathews.
